I think Carrie Bradshaw is an enduring fashion icon because she didn't really wear trendy things. Sure, there's things she wore that can become trendy (ahem, midi skirts) but they weren't so at the time. I think that's key to building a good wardrobe, wear what you like and what suits and your personality best. Let the trends come and go.
